Some great pointers but since this section will allow for 2 of my fav pastimes, rebutting and golfing, I must add in some of my own ideas/thoughts. While I agree with you on the driver thoughts for the most part a majority of people would be better off hitting their 3 wood from the tee than their driver. While most of the new drivers are way more forgiving and help add distance the manufacturers have added length to their standard shaft length making them very hard to control. Unless a golfer averages 225 yard carry from the tee a 3 wood will help with control and launch angle. The fact that your driver is shorter than standard length is a great idea. Im 6'1'' and my driver is short of "standard". Most last model drivers are more than sufficient and can be had for around $200 or less these days. I agree completely anyone who doesnt have at least 1 hybrid in their bag is missing the boat, scratch golfer or otherwise. I hit my hybrid from the tee, rough, fairway bunkers and even chip if need be. Scratch golfers should have at least 1 but the majority of golfers should have 2 or 3. Most golfers shouldnt carry higher than a 5 iron. I agree grooves should be cleaned but they dont play a huge part in how your irons perform. Unless you have really old clubs or play 100 rounds a year iron grooves will never wear out and wedge grooves will last at least 4 years. Pro players switch out their wedges a couple times a year but they play hundreds of rounds and hit thousands of balls. Great points on the custom fitting. You get bonus points for getting re-fit by a PGA Pro after the fact. Unless you get fit by a human being while you are hitting balls you cant be properly fit. Charts and online ordering based on height will not give you a proper fit.
